Spiral Jette

The second pair of shoes I did were inspired by the sea. The title comes from a combination of two films; Spiral Jetty by
Robert Smithson and French film La Jette’ by Chris Marker.

I’ve always loved tattoos particularly Japanese sleeves and set the tone with a traditional koi fish. The scene wraps around to a
beauty queen mermaid in a shell reminiscent of the Birth of Venus by Botticelli and the tongue references the paintings of
Hokusai, particularly the Great Wave. The other shoe shows the visual pun of a red lobster holding a cheddar bay biscuit
then references sushi, buried treasure, and a pirate ship on a stormy sea.
